On Tuesday, 10 June, starting at 11:00 AM, a ceremonial opening of the photo exhibition “Ready. Steady. Our Europe” will take place at Europe House in Belgrade. This regional exhibition, part of the WeBalkans campaign “Through the Lens: Youth, Sport, and Unity in the Western Balkans”, presents the work of young photographers from six Western Balkan countries who captured powerful stories of sport, solidarity, and European values through their lenses. The exhibition will be open to the public until 17 June.
The contest, part of the WeBalkans initiative funded by the European Commission, highlighted the role of sport in overcoming boundaries and strengthening connections between people. As emphasized at the opening, the competition was open to young people aged 18 to 29 and encouraged them to document moments that reflect inclusion, respect, and unity — values that lie at the heart of sport, as well as of the European Union. Whether it’s a dusty village field or a vibrant street match, the aim of the contest was to show how sport brings people together.
During the call for entries, more than 180 photo submissions were received from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia. A professional jury selected the most inspiring photographs that speak to a shared European identity, the spirit of community, and the transformative power of sport. The guiding idea of this exhibition is to celebrate the creativity of youth in the Western Balkans, promote regional unity, and foster a sense of belonging — all through the universal language of photography.
The opening event will bring together young photographers, athletes, civil society representatives, and EU officials, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore authentic visual stories from across the region and connect with partners, artists, and public figures who support this campaign.
The exhibition is open to everyone seeking inspiration and wishing to be part of a community that believes in connection and shared values — especially young creatives and students, photographers, journalists, artists, youth organizations and civil society representatives, as well as all fans of sports, European values, and culture. All interested visitors are welcome — admission is free.
